Chase your Adventure

Way too often when I tell people about my living situation I hear, "That's so cool," "You're living your dream," or my favourite, "I wish I could do something like that." Wanna know a little secret? YOU CAN LIVE YOUR DREAM TOO!

Yes, living my tiny lifestyle comes with adapting and changing with situations constantly. It takes some time getting used to but doesn't every new thing take time to get used to? What is the point of having dreams if you don't work every day to make them become realities?

There is NO Such Thing as a Dream Too Big

It might sound cliche but if your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough. That statement is something I live by and think about every day. I still very much remember dreaming of what I have right now. All the sweat, tears, and even bloodshed to get to this point. It took me a couple of years longer than I had originally planned to get where I am today, and I am still not where I want to be, but I'm a hell of a lot closer to my dream today than I was yesterday.

Do you want to know another secret? Even with the biggest, scariest dreams, all you have to do is take it day by day. What can you do today that will help get you closer to your goal tomorrow?

When I ask someone admiring my lifestyle why they only wish they could live on the road, one common answer is financing. So let's talk about it.

Yes, it does cost money to buy a truck and trailer. But how much are you spending on rent for an apartment that you will never see again? Why not spend your hard-earned money on something you own and live the life you truly want? There are many different options for going about this. For us, we put 1/3 down and took out a loan for the rest because we were so tired of waiting. But even with the loan and RV spot rent, I am not spending any more than I was on a 2 bedroom apartment in Austin, TX. The options are endless, you just have to get creative and do what you can do.

You absolutely can buy an older, cheaper camper and truck. Some of the most gorgeous RV's on Instagram are older and have been redone. Yes, it does take some work but that's the fun in it. Make it your own. Paint the walls a bright colour, hang curtains that don't quite match, do all the things you've wanted, be unapologetic!

No More Excuses

My next favourite excuse is that you're not ready to take the step, you'll do it when you're older, after kids, after retirement. Wanna know what I hear when you tell me that? I hear you making excuses because you're scared to take the leap.

I get it, change is scary. Just the other day Grant told me that I throw fits with the slightest change but once I look around, I realize it's better that way. What sparked that comment from my man of few words? We moved the kitchen table to a different spot... Moral of the story I HEAR YOU, but in order to make things more functional in your life, sometimes you have to move the table a few feet. Easier said than done, but sometimes changes are necessary to bring you happiness. Unless you really are talking about a table. In that case, move the damn thing, you'll get over it in 5 minutes.

Life isn't going to wait for you to be ready. It continues to move and flow and throw you those damn punches. But ask yourself, are you ever ready for big changes? No! So why wait to do something you truly want to do? Why put off your dreams for a more convenient time to come up? The truth is, there will never be a more convenient time.

Do The Damn Thing

More young people are buying and living in RV's now than ever. It is no longer a lifestyle for just one group of retired people. The world is changing, there are more and more jobs that allow you to work from home which means it is now more accessible than ever to live this lifestyle.

I love my lifestyle because I took the hard steps that were necessary to have what I have. I strongly believe that your life and where you end up is 100% up to you.

If my entire website does just one thing for you, my hope is that it inspires you to NEVER stop chasing your dreams. Live your truth every day and work to achieve your goals. Take baby steps, big things don't happen overnight. But if you keep at it, you will get there!

I read a quote on Instagram this morning that is perfect for this blog.

"You're only one defining decision away from a totally different life." -Mark Batterson

What decision will that be for you? How will you chase your adventure?
